I spend a lot of time alone with my kids. My husband travels a lot for work so we’re often on our own. I don’t usually worry about our safety, we live in a good neighbourhood in a safe city.
BUT… sometimes I do worry about what if…
What if we were followed coming out of a store or from an activity? What if I took the dog for a walk and something happened to me? What if I was meeting a client and something just didn’t feel right? The “what ifs” could drive you crazy or keep you bombarded at home if you let them.
Enter, React Mobile. React Mobile, a new free app for iPhone and Android that allows you to call for help with the touch of a button!
In an emergency, press the SOS shield on the app to send out a panic alert containing a link to your GPS location to select emergency contacts via text message and email, which can optionally be posted to Facebook and Twitter. Once the SOS alert is activated, you’re automatically prompted to dial 911. If you’re still curious about how it works, check out this video.
React Mobile Co-Founder, Robb Monkman, was inspired to create the mobile safety application after being held at gunpoint during a home invasion while in college several years ago. Wanting to do more for on and off campus safety he created a tool that could be used to silently and discreetly alert a wide network, including the authorities, of an emergency and its location. After testing several beta products in various markets for over a year, the React Mobile safety app was finally launched in March 2013.
I have downloaded the app and tested it and it works really well and gives me a sense of comfort that if I am ever in trouble, I can activate the app. I can also see that it will be useful as my girls get older and have cell phones. I can keep an eye on their whereabouts!
My only worry is the Follow feature… I’ll have to make sure that’s off when I tell hubby that I’m going to the grocery store and am really at the mall… if the credit card statement doesn’t give me away then React Mobile certainly will!
