Yarmouth RCMP investigate potential food tampering incident, Yarmouth, N.S.

The Yarmouth Town RCMP Detachment is investigating an incident of a nail found in a potato.

At approximately 3 p.m. today, RCMP received a complaint from a Yarmouth citizen advising a nail had been found in a potato.

The 10 lb bag of potatoes was purchased recently at Giant Tiger in Yarmouth. RCMP attended the complainant’s residence and the potato with the nail in it and the remaining bag of potatoes were turned over to police.

Anyone who finds any foreign metal objects in a potato is asked to refrain from throwing out the potato, metal object or the bag it was located in when purchased. Please contact your local police so the potatoes and related items can be passed along to the investigators.

The Nova Scotia RCMP Major Crimes Unit is continuing the investigation. RCMP is asking the public to please contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), text TIP202 + your message to ‘CRIMES’ (274637) or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca if you have any information they may have.
