Yarmouth Woman Pleads Guilty to Animal Cruelty Charge

Nicole Jacquard, a 42-year-old woman from Yarmouth, NS, pled guilty in Yarmouth court on September 24, 2018.

Jacquard was charged under section 445.1.1 (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada and under section 21 (1) if the Animal Protection Act of Nova Scotia.

The provincial charge was dropped
with Jacquard’s guilty plea under the 445.1.1 (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The Nova Scotia SPCA officers initially responded in September 2017, when a
complaint was lodged regarding Jacquard’s abuse to her dog and its puppies.

“This was a difficult case to investigate given the cruel and deliberate actions which led to the death of two puppies” said Jo Anne Landsburg, Nova Scotia SPCA’s Chief Provincial Inspector. “We are very pleased with the court’s decision to place a lifetime ban on Ms. Jacquard prohibiting her from owning any animal.

This helps to ensure that Ms. Jacquard will never have the opportunity to harm another animal.

The SPCA is committed to ongoing monitoring to ensure compliance.”
The mother dog was removed by SPCA officers and was seen by a veterinarian in Dartmouth. The mother dog did not suffer from any lasting medical conditions and was released into the adoption program through the Dartmouth Shelter.

She has since been adopted into a loving new home.

Jacquard was sentenced in Yarmouth Provincial Court on September 24, 2018 to 2  years probation and a lifetime ban on owning animals.

The NS SPCA operates on a policy of zero tolerance for animal cruelty and sets the
standard of animal care for the province of Nova Scotia. The NS SPCA urges you to
