Halifax District RCMP arrested a 17-year-old male following a collision on Cow Bay Rd. involving a stolen 2015 Volkswagen Passat.
Just prior to 6 a.m. on June 18, RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision where a 17-year-old male had struck a curb and disabled the vehicle. The man fled into nearby woods but members were quickly able to locate and arrest him without incident.
The investigation determined that the vehicle had been stolen earlier in the morning from a home on Edgecombe Cres. in Cole Harbour. Several unlocked vehicles in the area were entered and items such as change and cellphones were taken. One vehicle had its window damaged after the suspect broke it and stole a bag of knitting supplies.
The man will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date to answer to several charges including Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident and Trespassing at Night. Other charges are pending.
Halifax District RCMP is reminding residents that the warm weather brings more people outside, including thieves who prowl neighbourhoods. Locking and removing valuables can help protect your vehicle. The more difficult your car is to access, the less likely it is to be targeted.
