During rush hour traffic at 5:13 pm Halifax Regional Police and EHS responded to a report of a male struck by a Metro Transit bus at the corner of Spring Garden Road and Barrington Street.
Initial reports suggested the male was 25 hrs old, that is incorrect he is actually 16 years old.  He was conscious at the scene and briefly treated prior to being transported to the Q.E. II Hospital.  Members continue to interview passengers on the bus and witnesses in the area at this time.  Halifax Regional Police Accident Investigators will be processing the accident scene.  The preliminary investigation suggest that the male was attempting to catch the bus which would have already pulled away from the bus stop on Barrington Street and then began to turn onto Spring Garden Road.  It appears the pedestrian accidentally ran into the front passenger side of the bus and fell to the ground having the front wheel drive over his lower body.

Although the investigation is in its early stages it is not expected that charges will be laid.  The 16 year old male remains in critical condition at the QE II hospital.  Spring Garden Road will be closed in both direction between Brunswick and Barrington Street until approximately 8:00 pm.

Update to the Pedestrian and Metro Transit Bus Accident: July 19 @ 4:40am

Investigators have learned that the victim, a 16 year old male, remains in serious condition in the hospital with injuries to his lower body but is expected to live.
