Do you want to save money? Would you like the cents to stay in your bank account?
This month here at Common Cents Mom I am doing a special series. Over the next 31 days I will be giving you 31 ways to save that if you implement will leave one with money at the end of the month.
Day 1- The Shopping List
When you go to shop do you go with a list and a budget? If you are going grocery shopping or to the mall, you need a reason to be there otherwise it is mere entertainment and you are wasting money? Have you ever bought something that goes unworn or goes bad before you eat it? I have. Think that was money you basically wasted.
Each time you go to shop have a list. It is that simple.
When you are buying whether you are planning a birthday party, Eid dinner, or simply stocking up on summer clothes know what you need and shop with a list. When you are at the stores stick to your list. Don’t get distracted by that sales item you see. If it is not on the list, don’t buy it. Buy shopping with a list you are shopping with intent.
When it comes to grocery shopping, here too by planning your menu and what you want to cook for the week you can save. Tomorrow I will take a look at Menu planning as part of my Menu Monday. There are great lists out there that are simple and easy to use. I really like the one at Grocerylists.org. It is an extensive list of everything you might need.
Now my rule of thumb when I shop boils down to 2 questions:
1. What is my purpose?
2. Where is my list?
By taking the list I stay on track and it is easier to on track with my budget.
Do you shop with a list? Will you?
