4-H members from across Atlantic Canada will enhance their leadership skills with learning and hands-on activities at their annual conference in Debert.
The 2016 Atlantic Intermediate 4-H Conference will take place March 18 – 20 at the Debert Hospitality Centre with the theme, Out of this World Ag…citing.
The Atlantic 4-H Committee will host 95 4-H members at this year’s conference for youth from the ages of 13 to 15. Guest speakers, workshops and site tours are designed to energize the 4-H members and introduce them to local food and innovations in agriculture.
“Exceptional life skills development workshops are offered to youth as part of the 4-H program every year,” said Agricultural Minister Keith Colwell. “This year’s conference focus on agriculture and local food ensures delegates will be able to use their skills and leadership to contribute productively at the club, community and national level.”
Conference participants will take part in team building exercises, try out the uFit-B fitness program, attend sessions on entrepreneurship and robotics, tour the Perennia Innovation Centre, view a woodsman competition and participate in activities on the Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus in Bible Hill.
Jade MacEachern, a 4-H member from the County Line 4-H Club in Richmond County will be attending the conference for a second time and is looking forward to the experience.
“4-H has taught me many things from project work, to being a better person and a community member. These conferences provide a great opportunity to learn even more and you get to meet and share new experiences with other 4-H members from Atlantic Canada,” said Ms. MacEachern.
