5th Annual Dahlia Day Celebrations

Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Residents and visitors are invited to the annual Dahlia Day celebrations at the Halifax Public Gardens tomorrow, Aug. 26.

You don’t want to miss these beautiful flowers, which are in their full splendour this time of year. Bring your family and friends for a stroll to view the different varieties planted throughout the Gardens.

While you’re touring, chat with the municipal gardeners and members of the Nova Scotia Dahlia Society who will be on site at the dahlia display gardens from 10 a.m.

until noon to answer your questions. At 1 p.m., catch a flower arranging demonstration by Neville MacKay from My Mother’s Bloomers and while you’re there, make sure to check out the dahlia exhibit on display all day in Horticulture Hall.

This year’s celebrations will also include a special presentation to one of our municipal gardeners, Amy Soosaar-Joseph, who is receiving the newly established Suellen Murray Educational Bursary from the Friends of the Public Gardens.

Friends and family of the late Ms. Murray established the bursary in her honour to further the education and training of people exploring projects, research and educational activities relevant to the Public Gardens. Ms. Soosaar-Joseph is the first ever recipient.
