Municipal Offices Closed for the Day due to Storm

Wednesday, March 18, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Due to the ongoing storm and weather forecasts for later today, all municipal offices and customer service centres in the Halifax region will remain closed today, March 18.

Safety is the municipality’s top priority. Environment Canada has a winter storm warning in effect for Halifax Metro and Halifax County West. Snowfall amounts have already surpassed 40 centimetres in some areas and high winds and blowing snow are causing poor visibility.

The municipality has suspended Halifax Transit bus and ferry services, including Access-A-Bus, this morning. Staff will monitor the weather and road conditions and provide an update on service at 10 a.m. At that time, it will be determined if service will be cancelled for the rest of the day or reinstated at a later hour.

Curbside collection of garbage, organics, and recyclables is cancelled for today and will be rescheduled for this Saturday, March 21.

All municipal recreation facilities, including municipally operated rinks and pools, are delaying opening until noon and morning programs are cancelled. Recreation staff will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions and reassess at 11 a.m. to decide if facilities will close for the remainder of the day or open later in the afternoon.
