At 12:53 a.m. police were called to the Four Points Sheraton Hotel located at 1496 Hollis Street in response to an assault in progress. A female guest reported that she and her husband had just checked into the hotel and gone to their room. The woman left her room to purchase a soft drink from a vending machine. While at the vending machine she was confronted by a man who began sexually assaulting her. In effort to escape the victim convinced the suspect to take her back to her room and once there she yelled for her husband. The suspect began assaulting the husband which allowed the female victim to flee the room and go to the front desk for help.
Upon arrival, officers obtained a detailed description of the suspect and conducted a search of the hotel. The suspect, who was also a guest of the hotel, was located in the hallway on the forth floor and was arrested without incident. The victims, who were visiting from the United States, were understandably shaken from the incident. The woman was not injured and her husband suffered minor cuts and bruises from the assault.
Twenty-one-year-old Andrew Norman Wilson of Edmonton, Alberta is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Tuesday to face charges of sexual assault, aggravated assault, forcible confinement, unlawfully in a dwelling and choking.
