Man charged in assault with a weapon

Officers assigned to the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division have charged a man in connection with an assault with a weapon that occurred last week in Halifax.

At 4:30 p.m. on November 22, police were called to the 2100 Block of Barrington Street for a report of a man who had been stabbed. The 38-year-old victim was transported to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation revealed that the victim was involved in an altercation with another man and the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed the victim. This was not a random act and police believe the suspect and the victim are known to each other.

At approximately 2:45 p.m. on November 24, patrol officers observed a man, believed to be the suspect in the assault from November 22, walking in the 2100 block of Gottingen Street in Halifax. Officers advised the man he was under arrest and he took off on foot but was quickly taken into custody in the 2200 block of Maitland Street.

Thirty-three-year-old Justin Wade Sooley of Halifax was held in custody over the weekend and is scheduled to attend Halifax Provincial court today to face charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting arrest and five counts of breaching a probation order. He will also face additional charges unrelated to this incident.
