More construction contracts for the Dartmouth General Hospital’s expansion and renovation have been awarded to Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec companies.
Government awarded the remaining contracts for the third construction services tender today, May 1, as part of the QEII redevelopment project.
The companies are:
— Rodney Enterprises Limited, Dartmouth
— Commercial Flooring Group, Dartmouth
— EEME Inc., Boisbriand, Quebec
— Hill-Rom Canada, Mississauga, Ontario
These contracts are for the construction of the interior of the new addition and renovations within the existing hospital. Work includes flooring, window blinds, cabinets, toilet accessories, lockers, fire doors and grills, medical headwalls which hold gas and electrical outlets, patient lifts, cubicle tracks and curtains.
The total cost of these contracts is more than $3.9 million. Two sets of construction contracts were awarded earlier this spring.
The expansion and renovations will result in the addition of 48 beds on the fifth floor, eight new operating rooms to replace four existing operating rooms and a new outpatient care space. The work also includes extensive upgrades to the entrance and diagnostic imaging areas.

The QEII redevelopment project also includes the expansion and renovations at the Halifax Infirmary of the QEII Health Sciences Centre, new and renovated operating rooms at Hants Community Hospital in Windsor and the construction of a new community outpatient centre in Bayers Lake. This work will allow services to be moved out of the Centennial and Victoria buildings on the Victoria General site, to prepare for their eventual closure.
