Dartmouth man charged for assaulting officer after traffic stop in Halifax.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on November 4 an officer attempted to conduct a vehicle stop at the Windsor Street exchange. The vehicle failed to stop and continued to the area of the 3600 block of Mic Mac Street in Halifax where the driver fled. The officer pursued the driver on foot and was attempting to arrest the man when she was struck in the face with a rock. The driver fled the area but was later located and arrested.

Twenty-five-year-old Emanuel Jasmaine Downey of Dartmouth is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face the following charges:

  • evade police
  • assault police with a weapon
  • Unlawfully in a dwelling
  • 2 counts of Resist Arrest
  • 2 counts of Breach of Recognizance
  • 7 counts of Breach of Probation

On November 4 at 1050 pm an HRP officer attempt to conduct a vehicle stop at the Windsor St exchange.

The vehicle failed to stop and continued to the area of the 3600 block of Mic Mac St in Halifax where the driver fled. The officer conducting the stop pursued the driver on foot and was attempting to effect an arrest in a near by back yard when she was struck in the face with a rock.

The driver was able to escape and the area was searched with the assistance of K-9.

The driver was later located and arrested inside a residence where he continued to resist arrest.

The officer that was struck with the rock suffered minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle will appear in court later this morning.
