South Park Street bike lane construction begins
The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that construction work on the South Park Street bike lanes has begun.
Crews will be on South Park Street between Spring Garden Road and Inglis Street from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day until early September. Occasional nighttime work may also be required.
Halifax Transit bus stops between Spring Garden Road and Inglis Street may experience temporary closures while work is underway. Closures will be communicated via @hfxtransit on Twitter.
Parking will be temporarily reduced on a block-by-block basis during construction. Effective today, the accessible parking space on the east side of South Park Street will be temporarily relocated to the north side of Brenton Place while the adjacent bus stop work is underway. These parking spaces will be reinstated once work to the bus stop is complete. Accessible parking space relocations will be communicated via @hfxgov on Twitter.
Once complete, the South Park Street bike lanes will feature one-way protected lanes on each side of the road, designed for residents of all ages and abilities.
This route will eventually connect to other bikeways planned for University and Young avenues, Morris Street and Bell Road.
The South Park Street protected bicycle lanes were approved by Halifax Regional Council in March 2018 as part of the Regional Centre Cycling Network outlined in the Integrated Mobility Plan.
