Kingston man arrested on child pornography charges
The RCMP’s Provincial Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has arrested a Kingston man for child pornography offences.
Between September and November of 2019, investigators were able to identify an individual who had downloaded and shared more than 106,000 images and videos containing suspected child pornography, which is a significant amount of material.
On November 27, 2019, the RCMP’s ICE Unit searched a home in Kingston, with assistance from the RCMP’s Digital Forensic Services Unit, RCMP Special Tactical Operations and Kings District RCMP.
A 32-year-old man was arrested at his home without incident. He has been charged with Possession of Child Pornography and Transmitting Child Pornography. The suspect was brought before the courts and released on a number of strict conditions. He is next scheduled to appear in Kentville Provincial Court on January 7, 2020.
In Nova Scotia it is mandatory for citizens to report suspected child pornography. This means that anyone who encounters child pornography material or recordings must report it to the police. Failing to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failure to report child abuse set out in the Child and Family Services Act. The RCMP encourages citizens to be a voice for children who are victims of sexual exploitation by reporting any suspected offences to your local police or by using Canada’s National tipline for reporting online sexual exploitation of children at www.cybertip.ca.
