Two charged for failing to self-isolate

Inverness County District RCMP has charged two people for violating Nova Scotia’s Health Protection Act.

At approximately 2:35 p.m. on May 5, 2021, police were notified that two people who had recently entered Nova Scotia were not answering their phone when compliance officers called them to check on their self-isolation. Police attended the residence at 5:45 p.m. and found that no one was home. Police returned at 6:50 p.m. and found that there was still no one home.

On May 6, 2021, at 11:55 a.m., police returned to the residence for a third time and found both people were home. Police spoke with them, and neither provided a reasonable explanation for not complying with their self-isolation requirements. Police charged both the man and woman under the Health Protection Act for failing to self-isolate. The ticket carries a fine amount of $2,422.00.

The RCMP is reminding everyone to follow all public health orders and municipal bylaws. We all need to do our part to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The RCMP would like to thank Nova Scotians for their continued support, and express appreciation to the vast majority who are adhering to the directives outlined by the provincial government.
