Back in the city: 78 years after the waterfront, Fisherman’s Market opens at Richmond Yards in Halifax’s North End

Fisherman’s Market opened in 1948 on the Halifax waterfront and spent the next 78 years growing outward. It built its flagship on the Bedford Highway, came to handle close to 10 million pounds of seafood a year, and became the store Halifax made the trip for. The one direction it never went was back into the city.

Until now. Fisherman’s Market has opened its newest and most elevated store at Richmond Yards, the striking five-acre community taking shape around Robie and Almon streets in Halifax’s North End. Located at 2781 King Street, the new store brings the brand back to the peninsula where it began 78 years ago, while giving people living in the city a seafood counter they can easily walk to.

Fisherman’s Market is part of a family-owned Nova Scotia seafood group with operations spanning harvesting, processing, sourcing and retail, and decades of experience serving customers across the province.

What’s Inside

The new location brings together one of the broadest seafood assortments in Atlantic Canada under one roof. The fresh counter carries premium seafood including live and cooked lobster, alongside prepared seafood and grab-and-go meals for customers on their way home.

Monte’s Lunch

New to Richmond Yards is Monte’s Lunch, an in-market seafood counter serving both lunch and dinner. It means a visit can end at a table rather than a till, with a plate prepared a few steps from the case the seafood came out of.
