If the turkey never made it into the oven this year, you still have options. Nine restaurants and hotels around Halifax and Dartmouth are serving Thanksgiving meals on Sunday, Oct. 11, or Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 12, and a South End congregation is opening its doors for a free potluck on Monday afternoon.

Most of the pre-order takeout deals closed last week. The Westin Nova Scotian’s Thanksgiving to go meals, for example, had to be ordered and paid for by Oct. 6. So if you’re deciding today, a reservation is your best bet, and calling ahead is a good idea everywhere on this list.

Seaport Social, on the lobby level of the Westin Nova Scotian at 1181 Hollis St., is serving a sit-down Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday and Monday from 3 to 10 p.m. The plate is cider brined turkey with mashed potatoes, sage and thyme stuffing, roasted turnip and carrots, cranberry apple chutney and pan gravy for $40 a person, with apple tarte tatin for another $15. It’s dine-in only and reservations are required at 902-240-7608.

Drift, the restaurant in the Muir Hotel at 1709 Lower Water St., has a three-course Thanksgiving menu on Sunday and Monday from 5 p.m. on. Think butternut squash soup or a beet and kale salad, roast Nova Scotia turkey with summer savoury stuffing and garlic whipped potatoes, and pumpkin pie with maple toasted nuts. A wild mushroom risotto is the vegetarian main. Drift doesn’t post a price, and every open table is on OpenTable, or call 902-407-6042.

In Dartmouth, Pitch and Pivot at the Delta Hotels Dartmouth is serving Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday and Monday from 5 to 10 p.m. Reservations are required and are booked through the link on the hotel’s Instagram page. No price is posted.

The Courtyard by Marriott at Dartmouth Crossing, 35 Shubie Dr., is doing a three-course Thanksgiving lunch on Monday only, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You pick a starter, then turkey, salmon or mushroom ravioli, then dessert, for $53.95 a person plus HST. The hotel recommends booking by email at kish.kuruppath@courtyarddartmouth.com, or call 902-406-3000.

If brunch is more your speed, The Prince George Hotel at 1725 Market St. is bringing back its Sunday brunch this week with a Thanksgiving edition on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. Alongside the regular brunch menu you’ll find butter and sage turkey with gravy, stuffing, carrots and cranberry mostarda, plus a cheese and leek ravioli. Reservations are prepaid through the front desk at 902-425-1986.

Barrio’s, at 1571 Barrington St., is turning its Sunday buffet brunch into a Filipino Thanksgiving spread this Sunday. Its regular brunch runs 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and costs $29 for adults and $15 for kids. Call 902-444-2515 to check on seating.

Almonak, the North End brunch spot at 5659 Almon St., has two Thanksgiving weekend features: a Thanksgiving Benny with a dressing biscuit, white and dark turkey, cranberry sauce, eggs and hollandaise, and a vanilla cheesecake with pumpkin spice whip for dessert. Its posted weekend hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and it hasn’t posted holiday hours for Monday, so call 902-450-2959 before you go.

Over in Downtown Dartmouth, Celtic Corner at 69 Alderney Dr. is serving a turkey dinner for $21.99 plus tax all Thanksgiving weekend during regular hours, until it runs out.

Not everyone wants turkey. The Chickenburger, the Bedford landmark at 1531 Bedford Hwy., is on holiday hours this weekend for anyone who’d rather grab a burger and a shake between family dinners. It’s open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Thanksgiving Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Would you rather eat at home? The Swiss Chalet on Kempt Road has a Thanksgiving Family Feast that feeds four, with four sides and pie, for $49.99 for takeout or $54.99 for delivery this long weekend only, while supplies last. It isn’t available for dine-in.

For a free meal with company, the Universalist Unitarian Community of Halifax at 5500 Inglis St. is hosting a Thanksgiving potluck on Monday from 3 to 5 p.m., and it’s open to anyone. Bringing a dish is optional, but the congregation asks people to sign up with the size of their party. Call 902-429-5500 or email info@uuch.ca.

Hope Cottage at 2435 Brunswick St., which serves meals to people in need, lists holiday meal hours of noon to 1 p.m., which covers Monday. Souls Harbour Rescue Mission already held its free Thanksgiving dinners on Friday, with 2,000 meals planned at nine locations across the province.

Planning to cook after all? Big supermarkets have to close on Thanksgiving Monday under the province’s holiday closing law, so Sunday is your last chance at a full grocery run.
