Monday Shoe Porn + AFW: it’s a busy week

L-A: We’ve got a busy week coming up. Oprah Ben is hosting a week of totally responsible drinking with Yelp and I’m graduating and it’s Atlantic Fashion Week.

We’re pretty stoked about AFW. There’s the emerging designers on Wednesday night (I’m excited to see DrunkGurl by John Michael. I’ve seen one of his dresses up close and it’s like what would happen if a disco ball and a flapper dress had a baby. This is a good thing). Thursday night is the “Fashionista Mingle” at Mill’s, which will be fun as there’s a few new stores there that I’ve yet to visit. And Saturday night is the big gala night, which includes two long time favourites of ours: Veronica MacIsaac (she now has headbands! dying!) and Orphanage. Come out and join us – it’s always awesome to see the work of local designers live. And Ally’s even planning on getting a taxi home on Saturday.

So to kick off this week, let’s do it right with some shoe porn. Our favourite TV blogger Jill has sent us her collection:

Black Heels

The first pair of black pumps are from WalMart and are surprisingly comfortable, especially if I’m wearing tights. The next two pairs are from Le Chateau – the first pair has a lower heel but pinch my feet, so I prefer the pair with a higher heel. The next pair was also purchased at Le Chateau – I bought them last summer when I had a broken toe and a wedding to go to, so they’re very comfortable. The second last pair was a pair I purchased from GoJane.com. It wasn’t my best purchase – the heel is about 5 inches high, so I hardly ever wear them. The last pair is from Payless and is one of my favorite pairs of shoes. They’re pretty comfortable and looks great with a bright pair of tights.

Strappy Heels:

I bought the silver heels from Spring for a New Year’s Eve outfit, and I think they’re really fun. They replaced a silver pair I’d bought in high school that had a clear heel (Can you say stripper? What was my  18 year-old prom-going self thinking? ) and are much more comfortable. I bought the blue Steve Madden shoes at Macy’s in New York for my Grade Nine grad dance, and they’ve held up well over time. So in that case, I applaud my fifteen year-old self.

The brown strappy sandals are from Spring and have a great, low heel that makes them great for work. But these last two pairs are my absolute favorite shoes. The gold, silver and blue heels are Hogl and I got them on sale at John David last summer. I love them so much that I purchased a dress for New Year’s Eve just to match them. The green and taupe shoes are brand new from Anthropologie, and were a huge hit when I wore them to a party on the weekend. If I never have children, I’ll just carry a picture of those shoes around in my wallet. That’s how much I love them. [L-A: ha! I think I might start doing this]

Sneakers

I left out a few pairs of boring sneakers, but these are some of my favorites. I bought the striped Converse high tops in South Africa in 2007 and still love them.  My mom brought the pink Converse back from the US for me a few years ago, and I bought the red pair at Renaissance in Halifax. The plaid slip-ons are from Payless, cost about $8 and were well worth it. The maroon sneakers are probably from Junior High, but I still wear them occasionally. I don’t think my feet grew at all after the seventh grade. [L-A: I bought my first red pair of Chucks at Renaissance – on a class trip to Halifax in 1994!]

Pumps

I love the nude heels from Aldo, but they kill my feet and got pretty beat up after only a couple of wears. Still, they make my legs look pretty damn long, which is always a plus. The silver pumps are from Winners, and they’re pretty comfortable. I got the taupe heels at WalMart (I’m so good at finding shoes there!) and I love them because the heel isn’t too high. I’ve walked a pretty far distance in them and my feet felt fine. The brown pair were a gift from friends when I was in high school, and is still one of my favorite pairs of shoes. The pink shoes are also from my high school years, but I don’t think they’ve aged as well. They look cute with jeans, though. Now, the red shoes. In my defense, I bought them for a Halloween costume. I hardly ever wear them because they’re really high and kind of stripper-y, but they’re too fun to get rid of.

Flip flops

I try not to wear flip-flops too often, but they are super comfortable.  I never spend a lot of money on them though, since I usually just wear them in my backyard. Four of the pairs are from WalMart, and the pair fourth from the left are from the Black Market in Halifax. The first two pairs of sandals are my favorites and were both purchased on GoJane.com.

Flats

I’m in the market for more flats, since a lot of mine are on their last legs. The first pair are from Payless, and I’m obsessed with them. The pointy toe and ruffle makes me feel dressed up even though I’m wearing flats. The moccasins are from H&M, the metallic flats are from Le Chateau, the pink & purple flats are Joe Fresh, and the last two pairs are also Payless. I really love the zebra striped pair and they’re wearing out, but I can’t find anything similar. It’s sad.

Boots

The first pair is heeled boots from Spring, and I have never owned heeled boots as comfortable as these before.  The next pair is also from Spring, and I wear them several times a week. They’ve got a low, comfortable heel and the Western style is right up my alley. The next pair is from Naturalizer – they’re very comfortable and have a low wedge heel. The ankle boots are, again, from Spring.
The first pair in the second row get worn a lot, since you need rain boots in Halifax. I bought them at SoftMoc this year. The rip-off Ugg boots are a brand called Firefly, and although I know they’re ugly they do keep my feet awfully warm while waiting for the bus. The grey ankle boots were purchased from GoJane.com – they have really cheap, cute stuff but the quality is not good. The last pair are Joe Fresh – they were $50 and are real leather. I got a lot of use out of them all winter, they’re very comfortable, and stayed in good condition. Definitely one of my best purchases.

Wedges

Wedges are the best. It’s one of my goals in life to own more, because I think they’re incredibly comfortable. I bought the first pair from Aldo when I was in high school, and they’re the best shoes in the world. I feel like my legs are miles long in them, and they’re SO comfortable. The plaid shoes are from Payless and are great, but I forgot I owned them and recently bought a very similar pair while I was in Cape Breton. But whatevs, you can never have too many shoes.
The yellow shoes are from Anthropologie and haven’t actually arrived yet, but they’re on their way. Rachel is going to wear them on Glee when New Directions goes to New York for nationals, and I just had to have them.
