Mayor Peter Kelly offered the condolences of Council and the residents of HRM yesterday to the wife and family of former NDP leader, Jack Layton, who died earlier yesterday.

Mayor Kelly described Mr. Layton as a courageous politician who never gave up, despite the challenges that he faced.

“He led his party to official Opposition status while battling ill health,” said the mayor. “It was a remarkable achievement and I am saddened that Mr. Layton did not live long enough to enjoy his well-deserved success.”
