Police have charged a paramedic following an investigation into an allegation of sexual assault.
On February 7, Halifax Regional Police received a complaint from a 32-year-old Halifax woman regarding a sexual assault. On January 31, the victim became ill and was being transported to hospital by Emergency Health Services (EHS) when a male paramedic sexually assaulted her.
Last night, the suspect turned himself in at police headquarters. He was subsequently arrested and held in custody overnight. Forty-seven-year-old James Duncan Keats of Kentville is facing charges of sexual assault and breach of trust. He will appear in Halifax Provincial Court later today.
