Nova Scotians will have a chance to learn more about responsible gambling through programs and events during Responsible Gambling Awareness Week, Sept. 29 to Oct. 5.
“It is a week-long education and awareness campaign on how to gamble responsibly and why it’s important to ensure gambling stays responsible and fun,” said Bob MacKinnon, acting president and CEO of the Nova Scotia Provincial Lotteries and Casino Corporation.
“Nova Scotia is recognized internationally as a leader in responsible gambling and this week is just one example of our commitment to ensure we have a responsible gambling environment in Nova Scotia.”
This year’s campaign focuses on a common human experience — putting your foot in your mouth. Everyone has experienced a moment where they should have stopped, but instead kept talking and said the wrong thing. The campaign uses such moments to illustrate the right time to quit. By making the topic of responsible gambling approachable and positive, the goal is to get people talking about it.
Responsible gambling ambassadors will visit six communities to hand out information and give people a chance to win a prize by completing an online quiz. Communities being visited this year are Halifax, Sydney, Truro, Bridgewater, Antigonish and Wolfville.
The Responsible Gambling Resource Centres at Casino Nova Scotia in Sydney and Halifax will also host open houses on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. to encourage players to learn about responsible gambling, talk with staff and use its interactive responsible gambling tools.
Nova Scotia Provincial Lotteries and Casino Corporation is the Crown corporation that manages the gaming industry in the province and is the host of the 12th annual Responsible Gambling Awareness Week, which offers community events and education programs across Nova Scotia.
