RCMP in Pictou have laid two charges of impaired driving on a local resident for two separate incidents that occurred within 24 hours of one another.
Brian Logan MacDonald, 48, of Central Caribou was arrested and charged on Saturday afternoon for Failing to Stop at the Scene of an Accident when he fled the scene of a crash on Chapel Street in Pictou.
He was also charged for Impaired Driving. MacDonald was held overnight and released the next morning when he was sober. On Sunday morning, RCMP again spotted MacDonald driving and he was subsequently charged once again for Impaired Driving over 80 Milligrams.
MacDonald was held overnight and will appear in Pictou Provincial Court on Monday to face both Impaired Driving charges and Failing to Stop at the Scene of an Accident.
Since April, 2014, more than one person per week has been charged with Impaired Driving by the RCMP in Pictou County, a statistic RCMP Sgt. Kevin Dunlevy is concerned about. ‘It’s troubling to see that people continue to risk their own lives and the lives of others on a regular basis. We will continue to focus our attention on education, awareness and enforcement activities and try to take these drivers off the road.’
