DSC_8903_wm

Family, friends and colleagues were joined today by fire, police, EHS and military crews from as far away as Boston in saying good-bye to a dedicated, well loved firefighter who passed after a tragic accident while training.

Firefighter Skyler Blackie was described as a well loved, hard working firefighter who always had your back.  He was community oriented and joined the fire service a volunteer at age 18, going career later.

Kind words  and stories, some funny and others touching, were shared in Truro to a large gathering which required two buildings to accommodate the overflowing crowds who were in attendance.

HRFE crews were also manning the Truro firestation in support of all Truro firefighters, allowing them all to attend and say good-bye to their highly missed colleague.

The ceremony also saw the family receive honours on behalf of the fire service.

A video showcasing firefighter Blackie’s experiences within the fire service played as crowds gathered, and song and prayer were also offered within the service.

His spirit and goodwill will not be forgotten.
