Amendments to the Insurance Act Protect Nova Scotians

Government announced today, March 29, amendments to the Insurance Act that will protect Nova Scotians and ensure they have access to support when they need it most.

The current legislation regarding homeowner’s policies left some Nova Scotians vulnerable. The homeowner’s policy lacked clarification that coverage would be provided if damage was caused by a wilful or criminal act of any person named under the policy.

“These amendments will protect innocent Nova Scotians by ensuring insurance companies can not deny coverage for individuals in vulnerable situations, which we know disproportionately affects women,” said Minister of Finance and Treasury Board Karen Casey.

Nova Scotia joins several provinces making this change.
