Assault charges after man hit with axe

Victoria County District RCMP, with the assistance of the Inverness County District RCMP, has charged a man with Aggravated Assault following an incident in Bay St. Lawrence.

On January 31, at approximately 4:08 p.m., Victoria County District RCMP and Inverness County District RCMP officers responded to a report of an assault that occurred at a home on Fraser Rd. RCMP officers learned that two men, known to one another, were involved in a verbal altercation when one of the men struck the other with an axe.

The victim, a 32-year-old Victoria County man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by EHS.

At the scene, RCMP officers quickly located the man involved in the assault and safely arrested him.

Michael Deveau, 18-year-old, from Bay St. Lawrence has been charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault;
  • Assault with a Weapon.

Deveau was held in custody and will be appearing in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court today.
