Barricaded situation ends, Portapique, N.S.

RCMP are informing the public that the barricaded situation has ended tragically.

Shortly before 6:00 p.m., the 49-year-old man died in the vehicle as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot.

The RCMP investigation is continuing and officers are conducting next-of-kin notifications.

The RCMP has referred to the Nova Scotia Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) for investigation.

The Northeast Nova Major Crime Unit and Colchester District RCMP continue to investigate the suspicious death of the 47-year-old female. RCMP Forensic Identification officers remain on scene at Mitchell Drive.

Police are not expecting to release further details this evening.
