Last night on Twitter I wrote the following tweet:
What a moment. I’ve been struggling so much with getting back to my old self since returning from the UK in January that to finally see and feel progress has put a giant smile on my face!
Over the last seven months I’ve gone through periods where I’ll train hard and eat well but I haven’t stuck with it and at some points I’ve even slid in to some serious low points where I managed to put on almost 20 lbs. I’ve made lots of excuses (I’ve had a few legitimate reasons like driving 8,000km across the country) but now that my life is finally settled and I have a routine, I’m slowly but surely starting to feel good.
It’s still really hard to look at pictures and video from this time last summer or put on clothes from last year and remember how good of shape I was in back then. Sometimes to not feel or see that now is complete motivation and other times it just feels like a giant kick in the nuts. But either way, I’ve now officially got my mind set and I’m going to get back to that mentally and physically happy guy I know I am.
I talk a lot about my ups and downs on here because I want to let everyone know that it’s NOT easy and that no matter what you do or who you are, there are struggles with eating and being healthy all the time. Yes, I’ve lost 100 lbs but I’m not perfect. And you know what, you’re not perfect and either is Johnny Ripplepecks on the bench press over there. If we mess up once or have an off week or a bad month we can’t punish ourselves! What we need to do is look in the mirror and say:
