Big Day Downtown Launch Party

“HOW WOULD YOU SPEND $100 IN DOWNTOWN HALIFAX?”

We've asked popular bloggers, media personalities and journalists all over Halifax just that. DHBC has given away 30 $100 shopping sprees to those who accepted the challenge and in return they are documenting their experience. They can spend their $100 anyway they want – or anywhere they want in Downtown Halifax.

As previously mentioned, last week the Downtown Halifax Business Commission invited me to to participate in the Big Day Downtown project.  Sounded like a pretty cool opportunity so I RSVP’d to the launch party … which was held at Pipa Restaurant’s Atrium this evening.  Pipa is located on Argyle Street and features Brazilian & Portuguese cuisine. I’d never been before.

I walked in and easily spotted where the launch was being held!

The registration area.  I was greeted by a few lovely ladies who provided me with a name tag, drink tickets and lots of information on downtown businesses.

The Atrium was starting to fill up with bloggers, media, staff and business owners.  There were plates of appys out and the bar was open. (Too bad I was driving.)   It was a very nice atmosphere but really warm

After we all had a chance to mingle, there was video footage shown from a few blogger’s big day downtown experiences.  Below are Ally & L-A from the blog famous for it’s “Shoe Porn Mondays” – Fashionable People, Questionable Things

There isn’t any real rules to the project,  we just have to spend the $100 within the downtown area.  To be perfectly honest I wasn’t exactly sure what was defined as “downtown”.  Luckily that was clarified.

The Downtown Halifax Business Commission represents businesses located in the area between the Halifax Waterfront and Brunswick Street, and between the Cogswell Interchange and the south end of Barrington Street.

I finally got to meet Kristen, a food blogger –  WiteBite.ca.  This girl is so tiny and too cute! I felt like a giant next to her. hehe 🙂

I had a good time at the event but hadn’t eaten since lunch… between that and the heat, my blood sugar dropped and I had to sit down with some juice.  It was really embarrassing for me. 🙁  The very kind Lauren from Pier 21 sat with me and chatted all about the museum, the tours etc, until I felt better.  Thanks Lauren!

We were provided with a $100 Visa Gift Card as we left. Let the planning begin! 😉

Along with the giftcard, I also scored a couple of passes to YukYuks! Sweet, I had such a great time when we went to a show last year.

I am SOOOO excited to be a part of this project!! Thanks to the Downtown Halifax Business Commission for this wonderful opportunity.

Now I just need to decide what I’m going to do downtown.  I’ve narrowed it down to two options:

1)  Play tourist for the day
2)  Plan a “big date” downtown

What do you think?

PS.  Wondering how to check out what other bloggers have been up to for their “big day?”
