Blizzard warning for
Halifax Metro and Halifax County West issued

Snow and blowing snow tonight will become blizzard conditions for Friday.

This is a warning that blizzard conditions with near-zero visibilities are expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements.

A low pressure system will approach Nova Scotia tonight and track south of province on Friday as it intensifies. This system will bring snow and blowing snow beginning tonight over Southwestern Nova Scotia and spread eastward on Friday. Snowfall amounts with this system are likely to be between 15 and 30 centimetres for most of Nova Scotia. The worst conditions are likely to be over Southwest Nova Scotia and along the Atlantic coast as these areas are forecast to receive higher snowfall amounts with stronger winds. Snow and blowing snow will probably be an issue for all of Nova Scotia with blizzard conditions expected for some areas.

A cold airmass is expected to drop temperatures further this morning to below minus 25 for Northern Nova Scotia. These frigid temperatures along with light to brisk northwesterly winds will produce extreme wind chill values near minus 35.

In addition with the high tidal cycle and strong winds, higher than normal water levels are possible for Yarmouth and Shelburne counties on Friday.
