“Body contouring” becoming more and more popular in HRM

It’s a relatively new industry that’s quickly becoming popular. Also known as body sculpting, body contouring is about reshaping areas of the body.

Liposuction is an example of surgical body contouring, while technologies that apply energy to the body to reduce fat, build muscle, and tighten skin are examples of non-invasive body contouring.

It’s hard for some of us to believe, but we can literally apply technology to the body to change its shape. It avoids the risks, recovery time, and price tag associated with surgery.

“There are several technologies on the market,” says Catherine Crosbie who is the founder of Body Works Med Spa & Wellness in downtown Halifax. “Some are more effective than others.”

Body Works Med Spa & Wellness is the only medical spa in Atlantic Canada focused exclusively on non-invasive solutions for medical aesthetics and wellness. Their mission is to use state-of-the-art technologies to help clients look and feel slimmer, fitter, and younger while enhancing their quality of life – with no surgery or downtime.

When you get to know this industry, Catherine explains, only some of these devices are medical grade, which means they’re more powerful and likely to produce noticeable results. Body Works Med Spa & Wellness has two non-invasive, Health Canada-approved body contouring devices and clients are seeing great results from both of them.

Emsculpt Neo is the emerging leader in non-invasive body contouring. In the treated area, it permanently reduces fat by an average of 30%, which is the greatest average fat reduction margin of any non-invasive technology. Further, this device builds an average of 25% more muscle in the treated area, which is the best muscle-building result from any non-invasive device. Celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Drew Barrymore, and Olivia Culpo are known to use Emsculpt technology.

A typical treatment plan for Emsculpt Neo involves 4 or 6 treatments on one area. Each treatment lasts 30 minutes and they take place once per week. At Body Works Med Spa & Wellness, clients can zip in, watch Netflix or read a magazine for the duration of their treatment, and zip out.

Exilis Ultra is the other body contouring device at the downtown med spa. It’s a multi-purpose tool that reduces fat, tightens skin, and smooths cellulite. It can work on any area of the body and once again, there’s no downtime.

With 6 to 8 treatments, Exilis Ultra can reduce up to 2 inches of fat. It firms mild to moderate skin laxity, and improves mild to moderate cellulite.

Treating the face is known as a non-invasive facelift. In 4 to 6 treatments on the face, clients generally see firmer and plumper skin, a softening of lines and wrinkles, and improvement with eye bags and dark circles, all of which contribute to a more youthful appearance. This is one of the ways that Kim Kardashian enhances and maintains her facial contours.

“Our clients do body contouring for all kinds of reasons,” says Catherine. “When you decide to get in shape, it’s really hard to start at zero, so many of our clients use these solutions as a kick-start. Others want to feel better about how they look for summer or a down south vacation, and others still are candidates for surgery but don’t want to go under the knife. There are so many reasons. Especially after two years of staying home, people are ready to feel better about themselves.”

Using safe and effective technologies to reduce fat, build muscle, tighten skin, and smooth cellulite may sound too good to be true. The reality is, it’s not right for everyone.

“At Body Works, we make sure that people are a good fit before proceeding,” explains Catherine.

First, they ensure that candidates don’t have any contraindications. These are health conditions which indicate that treatment may not be safe. For example, if someone has metal implants in their body, that person cannot do Emsculpt Neo or Exilis Ultra in the zone where there is metal. In other words, someone with a metal IUD or prosthetic hip implant containing metal couldn’t treat their abdomen.

Second, they discuss what’s achievable within the candidate’s budget. A treatment plan for one area of the body starts around $2500. “We work with all kinds of budgets, but it goes without saying that these treatments re an investment in you.” PayBright financing is available.

“Once we know you’re a good candidate with realistic goals and a suitable budget, we ask if you can commit to being an active partner in your body contouring journey. That means maintaining or adopting healthy consumption and exercise habits. Our technologies are fantastic, but if you gain a bunch of weight during this process, you’re not going to see results in the way you should.”

So, if you’re willing to make an investment in your body and commit to drinking lots of water, maintaining your weight, and moving your body a couple of times a week, non-invasive body contouring might be right for you.
