Breast cancer fundraiser reaches $10,000

Breast cancer fundraiser reaches $10,000 There is no better feeling than realizing all of your hard work has finally paid off. That is exactly how the staff at Imagine Salon and Spa are feeling after finally reaching their goal to raise $10,ooo for breast cancer research.

After months of fundraising, the staff will be celebrating their achievement by hosting a Breast Cancer Wine and Cheese Social on Feb. 26, 2012. The social will take place between 7-9 p.m. at Imagine Salon and Spa, which is located at 950 Bedford Highway.

“Achieving the success with this project has given all of us so much more than the monetary success,” said Ian Marc, Master Stylist and the Salon’s owner. “We’ve given the survivors so much to be proud of however, we’ve also gained just as much.”

Most of the money that has been raised was done so through a calendar that was developed by the Imagine Salon and Spa staff. Sixteen women and one male, all survivors of breast cancer, were featured in the calendar.

The calendar was not just a fundraising tool, it was also developed as a celebration, as well as to make local breast cancer survivors feel beautiful inside and out. Each survivor was treated to clothes from All Dressed Up, along with a full makeover and photo shoot.

“To help us reach the $10,000 mark, we’ve continued to offer the remaining calendars for any donation, as well, we’ve had a bake sale and beautiful basket draws donated by Goldwell, KMS, Dermalogica and Jane Iredale mineral cosmetics,” said Marc.

The proceeds from the calendars, as well as other fundraising efforts by the staff, are being donated to CIBC Run for the Cure, Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia and Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation.
