Brooklyn Warehouse

My birthday this year fell on a Sunday, so unfortunately my options for dinner were let’s say limited. This left me with a dilemma because Pho at Star Anise on Barrington is typically my go-to birthday spot. It’s cheap, and they can accommodate a large crowd, but they aren’t open AT ALL on Sundays. Like many restaurants in the city, they either are not open at all for dinner on Sundays, or they close senior citizen early.

For my birthday, I was determined to go somewhere I hadn’t been before, and thought I wanted to go to Morris East for their pizza since I’ve been hearing so much about it, and I recently found out they make brick oven pizzas. Hello NY! However, in the midst of birthday celebrating, and present opening I was not going to make their 10pm curfew. Rats! what was I going to do? No Pho, and no brick oven pizza? This was beginning to look like a birthday nightmare. Having recently been to New York City, I was really looking forward to sinking my teeth into some gooey cheesey pizza.

Then out of the darkness came a good old fashion Google search “best restaurant in Halifax” and Brooklyn Warehouse came barging into the picture like a figure of hope (insert harp music).  It was exactly what I needed to scratch my New York City itch. I loved the vibe of the place which, I attribute to it’s proximity to the North End, and I love the deco inside too, very rustic.

I was starving, birthdays take a lot of energy whether it’s your own or someone else’s, so I ordered both the Warm Mushroom Salad, and the Fulton Fish on Browned Butter Risotto and naturally a birthday isn’t complete without some wine. Ordering the wine was an ego boost since I was promptly carded. I also thought it was funny though that the server looked at my ID, but never realized that it was my birthday (thorough inspection eh?)

Warm Mushroom Salad

This salad was to DIE for, honestly! Since I’ve been packing to move I’ve been eating a lot of Greek Salads from the Superstore, and let me tell you those wilty salads have got NOTHING on this one from Brooklyn Warehouse

I think that they’ve done this right because if you are going to claim to be a New York inspired Restaurant you need to have delicious salads; everywhere in NYC offers delicious salads because that’s what a lot of people are eating. This salad is delicious, the combinations are perfect; I love the zing of the lemon in the mushrooms that must be marinated. I also love the saltiness of the feta mixed in. Honestly one of the best salads I’ve ever eaten: hands down.

I also decided to go with the fish for my main course; many of other options sounded delicious, but I don’t eat read meat, so I opted for Fish. I would return to try the vegetarian option in the future with portabello mushrooms, as it also looked very good. This fish was perfectly cooked, and the crunch of the apples paired with the buttery risotto; oh my God good!

Thanks Brooklyn Warehouse for making my birthday a success!
sincerely,
