Cab driver charged with sexual assault

Police have charged a taxi driver in relation to a sexual assault that occurred in Dartmouth last month.

On April 11 police received a report of a sexual assault that had occurred in the early morning hours of April 10 in Dartmouth. A taxi driver picked up a fare in Halifax and sexually assaulted the woman who was not known to him.

Yesterday, investigators with the Sexual Assault Investigation Team of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division arrested the suspect in Halifax without incident.

Mearig Fasil Markos, 28, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date to face one count of sexual assault.
