Mayor Peter Kelly and Regional Council, along with HRM’s Cultural Affairs Office, are seeking nominations for the Mayors Poet Laureate 2011-2012. The deadline for nominations is Monday, March 28, 2011.

The Mayor’s Poet Laureate is an advocate for poetry, language and the arts. He or she is a resident poet or spoken word artist who has achieved excellence and whose work is of relevance to HRM citizens. The Poet Laureate will engage the community in activities, programs and events that demonstrate the positive impact of literature, poetry and spoken word.

This is an 18-month term. Candidates must have resided in HRM for two continuous years prior to the appointment. Any eligible poet or spoken word artist may be nominated or nominate himself or herself.
