Charges after man pulls knife on RCMP officer

On July 14, 2022, at approximately 8:45 p.m., Kings District RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance on Main St. in Kingston. It was reported that a man was yelling at people on Main St. and a description of the man was provided. An RCMP officer located the man on Bridge St. and asked him to stop yelling as he was causing a disturbance.

After repeated attempts to get the man to stop yelling, the man retrieved a knife and began advancing towards the RCMP officer. The RCMP officer drew his pistol and told the man to drop the knife. Initially, the man continued to walk towards the officer but then stopped and began walking away.

The man was safely arrested at the scene and transported to the Kings West Detachment (Kingston) where he was held in custody overnight. He will be facing charges of Assault on a Police Officer, Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. He will be appearing in Kentville Provincial Court today.
