Local bakery celebrates their one-year anniversary by giving back to the community

Event planned to support Ronald McDonald house

What a difference a year makes.

COBS Bread is celebrating the one-year anniversary of opening their Dartmouth location with a charity BBQ in support of Ronald McDonald House. 2BOYS Smokehouse & Deli and Home Depot Dartmouth Crossing are also lending their support to the festivities. The event takes place at 50 Tacoma Drive on July 16th from 11am – 3pm.

COBS first opened in Australia in 1980 and made its way to Nova Scotia. It has grown to have 700 bakeries around the world, with 145 of them currently being located in Canada.

Rebecca Cripps is the owner of COBS Bread at the Tacoma location. She says COBS had their location in Bedford, but a year ago decided to move to Dartmouth as well.

“Having a store in Dartmouth was a dream, and the community has been very welcoming. We’ve had a lot of customers coming in that have never heard of COBS Bread, so opening a location in Dartmouth was an opportunity to raise brand awareness,” she says.

Their Bedford location had their first charity event last year.

“We had a lot of success at the previous charity BBQ supporting Freedom Kitchen, so we wanted to do it again this year”

Lots of prizes, including a gazebo and fire table, are up for grabs.

Cripps says being open at the Tacoma location wasn’t easy. “We were unsure of how it would pan out opening mid pandemic, but we were confident in our fresh product and fantastic staff to rise to the occasion,” she says, “After 1 year in business, we are thankful for the outstanding support from our community and our hardworking employees,”

The charity BBQ will be taking place at COBS Bread’s location at 50 Tacoma Drive on July 16th from 11am – 3pm.
