Charges laid after man interferes with police search – Yarmouth

A man and a woman are facing charges after two related incidents yesterday in Yarmouth.

On October 26, members of Yarmouth/Clare RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) located a vehicle that was enroute to Yarmouth with drugs inside. Police followed the vehicle to a home on Main St. and arrested the driver. When police searched the vehicle, a significant amount of cocaine was seized. Some of the cocaine was packaged in small amounts for individual sale. The driver of the vehicle was taken to jail.

While the search was being conducted by police, a man and a second woman came out of the home where the vehicle was parked. The man was yelling at police and was being confrontational. His behaviour escalated to a point where he grabbed a rake, held it over his head, and threatened to flatten the tires on the tow truck that had been called to remove the vehicle from the property. He was arrested and transported to jail as well.

The driver of the car, a 44-year-old woman from Barrington, is facing a charge of Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking. The 39-year-old man from Yarmouth who was in the home is being charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer and Obstruction. Both people were released from custody later that day. They have been scheduled to attend Yarmouth Provincial Court on December 3.
