Charges laid in assault on officer by Cascades Spa

Halifax Regional PoliceCharges have been laid in Tuesday’s incident where a prisoner attacked an officer on the Bedford Highway.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. the officer was transporting a prisoner when he observed him swallow something. The officer stopped in an empty lot near Cascades Day Spa to check on the man and upon opening the door the prisoner struck him with a flashlight.

A struggle ensued which resulted in both men in the roadway, facing on-coming traffic. Two citizens stopped and assisted in helping the officer gain control of the prisoner. Both the officer and prisoner were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries.

Thirty-year-old James David Brown of Sackville is charged with assault with a weapon, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, escape custody, breach of probation and breach of recognizance.

Brown will appear in court once released from hospital.
