Correctional Services Act Modernizes Practices

Amendments introduced today, Oct. 2, to the Correctional Services Act, better reflect current practices and technology.

The Correctional Services Act governs correctional services processes and activities.

Changes include:
— wording to allow more technologies for offender visiting and communications
— wording to reflect practices for transporting offenders
— clarifying that victims only need to be advised of permanent transfers to other correctional facilities or the penitentiary
— updating references of electronic monitoring to electronic supervision and adjusting the definition to include modern technologies
— reassigning positions that no longer exist
— updating the definition of committal order to include regulation-making authorities other than judges

The correctional services division of the Department of Justice administers and operates community- and custody-based programs and services for adult offenders and young people.
