Thursday September 26, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – Dalhousie Student Union and Halifax Regional Municipality(HRM) have installed the first of eight new permanent bike repair stands to be placed strategically along key cycling routes and transit hubs in the city.

The first one is up and running at the southwest corner of South Park and Spring Garden Roads, near Victoria Park.

The stands boast a commercial grade pump and a variety of tools, making minor adjustments and simple bike repairs a possibility while on the go. The tools are available to the public, free of charge, at all times.

The remaining seven stands will be installed over the course of the next few months. Dalhousie Student Union has ordered two to be placed in District 7 (Peninsula Downtown); Halifax Regional Municipality has ordered three stands, to be located at each of the ferry terminals; Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) will be installing one near the Macdonald Bridge bike lanes; and the Dalhousie Faculty of Engineering will install two on Dalhousie’s Sexton Campus.

Stand locations: • University Avenue and LeMarchant Street (Dalhousie Student Union) • Victoria Park (Dalhousie Student Union) • Morris Street and Queen Street (Dalhousie Engineering) • Behind the Ralph Medjuck Architecture Building (Dalhousie Engineering) • All three Ferry Terminals (HRM) • Macdonald Bridge Bike Lane (HHB)
