Thursday, May 25, 2017 (Halifax, NS) – Dartmouth Sportsplex users, commuters, and residents are about to see the first signs of the multi-million dollar revitalization of the recreation facility.
The Dartmouth Sportsplex will be closed to users at the end of the day on Sunday. The revitalization project will see the renovation of the entrance way, locker rooms, pools, fitness centre, community rooms, and the installation of a new central skylight. There will also be an expansion that will be highlighted by a new double gymnasium.
The first steps of the project will see construction crews installing a fence for safety and security as well as replacing and removing the bingo hall. They will also be installing a new driveway to the facility from Thistle Street.
The arena will reopen to skaters in September. The walking/running track will also reopen at that time.
The Halifax Transit Bridge Terminal will remain open and will not be affected by the work at the Sportsplex.
When the $22-million revitalization is complete in the fall of 2018, the Dartmouth Sportsplex will boast a new gymnasium, fitness centre and studios, meeting rooms, as well improved open and airy public spaces.
