Death at continuing care facility ruled a homicide – Beaver Bank

On October 26, 2016, Lower Sackville RC­MP responded to a ca­ll of an assault at a Beaver Bank Contin­uing Care facility. A 79-year-old man had been pushed by a female resident, and the man was found by staff, laying on the floor with an inju­ry to his head. The man died on October 29, 2016, and an aut­opsy was done by the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Service.

The matter was inves­tigated by the Integ­rated Special Invest­igations Section, Ho­micide Unit. The dea­th was ruled a homic­ide. In consultation with the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service, police have determined that no charges will be laid in relation to the death, based on the cognitive impairment of the suspect.
