Murray Coolican has been named the new deputy minister of Business, Premier Stephen McNeil announced today, Jan. 28.

“Murray will provide excellent leadership to this new department focused on fostering private-sector growth,” said Premier McNeil. “We are changing the way government does business. Murray’s experience, enthusiasm and commitment to the public and private sectors will be an asset in this role.”

Mr. Coolican has a unique combination of senior level experience in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

He has served as senior vice-president at Maritime Life and vice-president at a number of companies including Nova Scotia Power, Corporate Communications Limited and National Sea Products. Additionally, he has held senior positions with the Government of Ontario and served as special assistant to the Rt. Honourable Robert Stanfield. Mr. Coolican also chaired the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Coolican will retain the energy portfolio.
