Dramatic heist: Man forced from excavator at gunpoint, $200K in items stolen

Halifax District RCMP is investigating a home invasion that occurred at a home on Deepwood Landing in Gaetz Brook.

On December 29, 2023, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to a report of a home invasion on Deepwood Landing in Gaetz Brook. RCMP officers learned that a man had been operating an excavator on the property when he observed another man standing in front of the excavator, pointing a gun at him. The suspect forcefully removed the victim from the excavator and directed the victim inside the home, while continuing to hold the victim at gun point. The victim opened a safe inside the home, at the demand of the suspect, and the suspect took several items valued at nearly $200,000. The suspect then restrained the victim before fleeing the home. The victim was able to free himself from the restraints and was not physically injured.

RCMP Police Dog Services conducted a search of the area, but the suspect was not located.

RCMP Forensic Identification Services attended the home and conducted forensic examination of the scene.

The suspect is described as a black man, wearing a light-coloured hoodie and dark coloured pants.
