Dressing like Carrie: Day Seven

AllyG: And it’s over!

Day seven is finally here. While I definitly had fun with this challenge, it was also very…challenging. Trotting around in wacko clothes while on maternity leave is not easy, my friends. Receiving blank stares from my husband as I came downstairs dressed in challenge-ready attire is also a little disconcerting. Well, ok, that was sort of funny. So, while I still love to look at Carrie dressed as Carrie, I have decided that I will stick with being Ally. I think my style is still carefree, but perhaps a bit more age (and suburb) appropriate. With that said, there were some aspects of today’s outfit that I liked. Let’s get to it!

Today’s Inspiration:

Topknot hairstyle! Which, is sort of my go-to look anyway, but I made it extra high today!

Scarf on arm (Remember in season four when she was trying to quit smoking for Aidan? Scarf was to cover the patch!)

Cargo pants…I’m not touching the sheer blouse business. I’m fine dressing crazycakes but I ain’t working no whorecake angle. You dig?

Aviators!

Let’s take a look!

Aviators: Dressed in Time

Shirt: American Apparel

Scarf: Biscuit (I believe…)

Pants: Mexx from Samuel and Co.

Shoes: Guess from Century 21 in NYC

Necklace: Dunno, probably Claire’s?

Bathing Suit Top (you can’t really see it, but it’s there, halter style): “Borrowed” it from my friend, Roz, years ago. Hi Roz!

Belt: Frenchy’s

Note: Do you like how I’m listing all of these items as if you are going to go out in a mad dash and try to recreate the outfit for yourselves? So awesome.

Not only did I take the garbage cans back up to our shed in front of the neighbourhood (it was 14 degrees in Halifax today, trust me, they were all out. In fact, my next door neighbour took these photos). I also picked up the husband from work wearing this. Imagine his delight! I believe his words were, “When the #$%#%$ is this going to be over?” and “Make sure my friends don’t see you like that when they pick me up for Ribs.” I know, swoooooooon.

So, my friends, alas all weird things must come to an end. This ends the Dressing like Carrie challenge. I honestly cannot believe I embraced this challenge so easily when it was proposed by L-A. In the words of Lady Gaga, “I wish I could shut my playboy mouth”.

Anyway, Don’t cry, no….no…dry those tears, for L-A is next up to bat as the Heathers girls. We notice that you are loving these interactive challenge type thingys, so tell us what else you want. We love blogging and we love you reading, so give it to us, tell us what you need. We blog to serve.

L-A: I don’t know about you, but I’m sad that it’s over. This has been fun.  I really love that she jumped on this without me having to beg or bribe.  It was all for shits and giggles.

I came to a realization during this whole thing: it not Carrie’s clothes that everyone loves. Let’s face it, Ally has inadvertently proved that if a normal person dressed like Carrie, it makes look like a crazy lady. It’s not the clothes. It’s not even the style, because let’s face it, it’s a mixed bag of a style. What people love is the character of Carrie. They love SJP. She could have worn a paper bag for six seasons and the world would still love her style.  That’s just my theory.

If we had the cash and Ally was even crazier, I’d suggest we go even further to recreate Carrie’s outfits. (we can’t because Ally won’t and because El Jeffe would probably put a hit out on me). Dollars to donuts she’d get a whole lot of head tilts and WTF looks on the streets. Even if she wore Carrie’s actual outfits – all the designers and labels in the world wouldn’t make you think that Ally was less crazy.  And it’s not an age thing: the character of Carrie was always older than Ally is now.  It’s the character, not the clothes that really make up the Carrieness that everyone loves. And that’s okay. It helps me come to terms with why everyone says she looks so fabulous when I think she looks like a crazy bag lady.

Alrighty, enough soapboxing from me, let’s get down to scoring. Today’s outfit was great. It will never top the ridiculosity of Day Six, but it’s hard to make that kind of magic happen everyday.  It was borderline Safe Carrie, but she saved it with the bikini top and the scarf.  Here’s the score:

ridiculous scarf on the arm: +1

wearing a bikini top during completely inappropriate weather: +1

(I don’t care how warm it was yesterday or how much was sun was out, it is still March and it is not that warm. This is the only time I will ever give points for wearing a bikini in March).

Doing chores while dressed like that: +1

Necklace with beads the size of BabyG’s head: +1

Actually doing this for seven days: +2

Today’s total: +6

Overall score: +20.5

Yay! You scored 20.5 points! I have no idea what that means! But it’s awesome.
