Fire investigators have determined that the origin of a blaze at a Halifax apartment building earlier this morning was suspicious and the investigation has been turned over to police.
Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency and police responded to a fire at 27 Evans Avenue at 4:07 a.m. The blaze was confined to an unoccupied unit and was put out by fire crews. The first police officer on scene entered the building to locate a hearing impaired tenant and suffered smoke inhalation. The officer was taken to hospital, treated and later released. It was later determined that the tenant was not in the building at the time of the blaze.
The investigation has been handed over to the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigation Section. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at 490-5016.
