Fatal fire claims life of 83-year-old

RCMP release:

Kings District RCMP responded to a fatal house fire that occurred on Sandy Crt. in Aylesford.

At approximately 7:05 a.m. this morning, Kings District RCMP, fire and EHS, responded to a report of a house fire on Sandy Crt. in Aylesford. Upon arrival, RCMP officers learned that the fire was isolated to one room in the home as a window air conditioning unit had caught fire. A neighbour had extinguished the fire in the unit and removed it from the window prior to the arrival of first responders, however the neighbour was unable to enter the home due to the significant amount of smoke inside.

Firefighters located an 83-year-old man inside the home and he was rescued. The man was transported to hospital by ambulance and, sadly, was later pronounced deceased.

The investigation into the cause of the fire, assisted by the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office, remains ongoing. At this time, the fire is not believed to be suspicious.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.
