Halifax Fire crews were called to a fully involved fire in a detached garage at 87 Indian Point Rd in Glen Haven earlier this evening.

According to Divisional Commander Peter Andrews, fire crews were dispatched at 5:07 pm for a report of visible flames and smoke in the garage, located approximately 20 feet from the home.

The home owner was home at the time of the fire. He was alerted to the fire after hearing an explosion.  By 5:40 pm, fire crews had the fire under control and continued to monitor the structure and extinguish any hot spots until approximately 6:48 pm. As many as 11 fire trucks and support vehicles from neighbouring communities responded as well as EHS Paramedics and RCMP.

Fire investigators will be on scene Tuesday to complete their investigation. No cause is known at this time.
