Fire diverts United Airlines flight to Halifax Stanfield International Airport, Halifax Airport, N.S.

At approximately 9:20 p.m. this evening, RCMP responded to a call regarding a fire onboard United Airlines Flight 999. The flight originated from New York and was destined to Europe.

While enroute to Europe a fire erupted in the galley of the plane. The fire was extinguished by crew using a fire extinguisher on board the aircraft.

There were 293 passengers and 13 crew members and no one was injured as a result of the fire. Fire, EHS and RCMP were all dispatched when the plane was diverted to Halifax Stanfield International Airport. It is not known at this time if passengers will continue on to Europe or stay in Halifax. The investigation is continuing.
